Kommand & Kodu [Beta - need testers]

So, I got a little bored of working on Left 4 Kodu Reloaded and Kodablo so Idecided to try and build something like one of my favourite games, Command & Conquer.

The basic idea of K&K is similar to Kodablo in that once it's finished, people will be able to create their own maps using a Toolkit version.

Send me a message (here or on XBL) if you want to play :)

Instructions

  • Red number = Money
  • Orange number = Population limit

Hold RT: Build mode
  • A = Refinery
  • B = Factory
  • X = Turret
  • Y = Sell

Hold LT: Building Control mode (Hover over structure to select it)
Refinery:
  • A = Harvester

Factory:
  • A = Rifleman/Cannon Fodder
  • B = Tank
  • X = Bike

No shoulder buttons: Unit control mode
  • A = Select units, you can hold this down and drag over several units
  • B = Deselect units
  • X = Set waypoint
  • Y = Delete waypoint

Thats a great system for being able to use more buttons! I love it!
Unless you need the colors specific. You could try implementing that the buildings or lighting changes colors when you switch between control settings.
That way it will let the player be more aware of what control scheme he/she is in.

The saucer changes colour depending on what mode you are in, and other entities will not react to your saucer if you aren't in control mode.

or you can have the saucer just say in a chat bubble above him what mode you are in... its easier for new players to understand.

I tried that, but it doesn't work well. Speech bubbles from the 'Old' mode will persist for too long.

Would love to see this - will contact you via XBL when I am online. I am also working on a fledgling RTS.

I'm at work now, but I would love to know how you implemented the multiple select option. So far, I have used sounds to "call" units to my command unit, but this of course put the command unit in the thick of things. Haven't decided if I want to do that as part of my gameplay approach or not, but I am curious about yours.
