Postby El Bishi » Wed Jul 15, 2009 3:42 am

I'm downloading it now. I'll tell you how awesome it is later. If you want me to test something specific, post here and I'll do my best to get to it.

Patch notes as of now:
New: Increased the maximum number of programming pages to 12.
New: Ability to send worlds to friends in a sharing room if they have allowed others to do so.
New: Added “favorite” world tag.
New: Option to auto-download worlds marked with favorite tag.
New: The active tile in the options helix is now highlighted.
New: Increased the maximum health cap to 1000.
New: Increased the maximum speed that characters can travel.
New: Added 26 more score buckets based on the (English) alphabet. These scores are always invisible.
New: Ability to turn off collision, damage and healing effects.
New: Tweak to turn objects invisible (not visible to the user, other bots can still see them).
New: Tweak to make objects ghosted out (able to pass through anything, and are translucent).
If both Invisibility and Ghosted are set, the object will be completely invisible. :)
New: Added a dabber tool to make it easy to select terrain types.
New: Terrain types used in the current world are now placed at the beginning of the terrain picker.
New: Worlds now contain a credit listing of who worked on them. This is accessed in the World Options screen.
New: Ability to edit world tags in the Load World menu.

Fix: Removed unused audio files to free up space.
Fix: Slowed down the rate that land is raised and lowered.
Fix: Health bars of linked-clones did not properly expand when the number of hit points was increased.
Fix: Magic brush is no longer no active when starting a new empty world, if it was the active brush in the previous world.
Fix: Autosave files sometimes stopped showing up.
Fix: Start button now toggles the mini-hub.
Fix: Sound effect while moving nodes up and down was being triggered too often.
Fix: Splash sound effects were being over triggered when water depth was very shallow.
Fix: Carried objects now match the couriers’ orientation.
Fix: Added an option to always invert the camera.
Fix: Mute now only mutes pre-canned sounds, not programmable sounds.
Fix: Fixed typo in Path help.
Fix: The Soccer Ball thought it could be programmed to move.
Fix: Zoom still occurred when in programmatic first person mode, which was disorienting when going back into chase cam.
Fix: Crash when opening the virtual keyboard with too long of a string.
Fix: Crash when opening example [say] tile from the programming help.
Fix: Crash while sharing with friends whose GamerTag’s used unsupported characters.
Fix: Softlock when adding more than 8 Lights.
Fix: Rock Band/Guitar Hero controllers caused the camera to spin.
Fix: Reset World was resetting scores.
Fix: Gaps in expressible numbers. You can now use up to 10 tiles, as well as several more number tiles.
Fix: The On Water sensor did not work correctly.
Fix: Only the first created object emoted.
Fix: Launching held objects did not work correctly.
Fix: Bots are now able to inflict zero damage.
Fix: Various graphical fixes in the Help screens.
Fix: "Technique: Change Behavior" showed two win messages.
Fix: The player did not lose in "Turnover", when the stick ate Black Apples.

Straight from the playtest thread:
In the update, we added a few sharing tweaks for folks who want to user their xbox as a sort of quasi-server. The basic change is that you can now set your xbox up so that your friends can send worlds to it without you being there to actively initiate the transfer.

We’ve noticed some people offering up their xbox as a community sharing station of sorts. This is a bit of effort because the owner of this machine has to actively download from everyone who visits. We’ve added a way for visitors to upload their levels directly as long as everyone has given their permission.

Tweak 1: Send To
Send To lets you push a world over to a friend’s machine. You still both have to be in a sharing session, but now you can pick which level you want to give your friend rather than having them choose. Your friend has to allow this specifically by turning on “accept sent worlds” in the options screen.

Finding the Send To menu: In a sharing session, open one of your local world “bins” (My Worlds, Downloads), select a shared world, then press <A> to open the pop-out menu. Here you will see a submenu called “Send To >”. Other players in the sharing session that have this feature enabled will appear on the menu. Selecting a player will attempt to add the current world to their download queue. This can fail if they already have the world downloaded, or it is already queued for download by them.

Tweak 2: Favorite Tag
This is not a sharing-specific change, but simply a new tag that you can set on your worlds. This tag does have special meaning in the sharing session however in that you can set your machine to automatically download favorites from anyone you’re in a sharing session with. Here are a few examples of how it behaves:
- When you join a session, you immediately queue all shared favorite worlds for download.
- When a new player joins the session, others will automatically queue the player’s shared favorites for download.
- Whenever someone in the session marks a shared level as a favorite, others will automatically queue it for download.
- Favorite worlds can be visually identifed by the golden band around their thumbnails.
- The favorite tag is always cleared upon download.

To make this auto-download mechanism easy to manage, we’ve added a tag editor to the world browsing screens, making it possible to manage your favorites while sharing. This tag editor is not exclusively for use in sharing sessions though. It is a general tool available in the Load World menu as well.

These new features are turned off by default. You can enable them in the options helix off the main menu. Before you enable either of these features, please be aware that you will be opening yourself up to receiving worlds you did not explicitly ask for.

Update (Friday 17th):
New: Added glyph for soccer ball: [ball], [soccer ball] (replace square brackets with angled. this editor won't let me use chars that look like html tags).
New: Added per-character tweak options to adjust the distance used by the “close by” and “far away” sensor filters.
New: Added per-character tweaks for acceleration values.
New: Added world tweak option to hide resource meter during gameplay.
Fix: Creatable objects now spawn at their creator’s height.
Fix: Don’t play the speech audio effect if the say bubble string is empty.
Fix: Corrected Wisp collision radius.
Fix: Camera was stuck in fixed offset while game is paused.
Fix: There was a problem with the mine’s animation blend weights.

Update (Wednesday 23rd):
New: Added three dedicated servers that everyone can share levels with. :)
Fix: Fixed a crash that would occur if the Xbox ran out of disk space while writing a file. A warning pops up now stating what's happened, and how to fix it.
Fix: Detect failure of storage media to prevent disappearing world issue.
Content: Updated Gawlf so that the Kodu no longer displays shield effects.

I think there's a new option to allow friends to send you worlds. If it is, this will be useful for Moco to use with Gameshare.

Nice!

Thanks for that information, El Bishi - very exciting indeed. Can you find out if it's compatible with existing levels? I've been working on a game for 8 days straight and now I just thought of this nightmare.

I very much doubt it would erase old worlds, but I'll check. I'm just booting it up now - I'll see if my old beta worlds are still there.

This is awesome. If someone could record a video showing the new max speed and how changing the turning speed multiplier affects control/turning, then that'd be great.
